Summer Vacation Safety
Summer is the perfect time to leave for a week or two and enjoy a summer vacation with your friends and family. While making sure that you have everything packed in your suitcase, it is also important to make sure that your home will stay safe while you are away. Keep these safe vacation tips in mind before you jump in your car.
- Ask the post office to put a hold on your mail so that it does not pile up in your mailbox. A full mailbox is a sure sign that nobody is home, which gives burglars the perfect opportunity to break in.
- Make sure that your gardener still comes and takes care of your yard while you are away. If a thief sees a yard that is overrun by weeds and long grass, they will be more likely to break in since it looks like nobody is home.
- Ask a trusted family member or friend to stay at your house while you are away. If you cannot find anyone to stay at your house, ask one of your neighbors to keep an eye on your house and call the police if there is any suspicious activity.
- Burglars are much less likely to break into your house if they cannot hide in the shadows. Install sensor lights around the exterior of your house that will light up your yard if someone gets too close to your house. You should also consider installing timers on a couple of lights inside your house so that it does not stay dark all night long.
Most importantly, look over your homeowners insurance policy to make sure that you have the right amount of coverage. Contact the insurance professionals at Insurance and Mortgage Services in Batavia, Illinois for all of your homeowners insurance coverage needs.
