With summer coming to an end, it is important to make sure that you prepare you summer home for winter. Keep these simple tips in mind to ensure that your pipes and house stay safe while you are away for the winter.
- Turn off all of the water. Turn off the water from the main supply point, which should be outside your home.
- Open all of your faucets and drain all of the waterlines. Also make sure to drain the water heater and toilets if your summer home is in an area that is susceptible to freezing pipes.
- Blow out all of the excess water in the pipes with an air compressor. Pour antifreeze into the waterlines to dilute any water that is left in them.
- If your summer home has a pool, make sure to drain it so that the freezing water does not crack the walls of the pool. Also make sure to drain all the water from any fountains.
