Properly closing up your summer home for winter is very important. Since you will not be visiting the house for a few months, it is important to make sure that it is kept safe through the winter months. Keep these tips in mind to ensure that your summer home is not ruined by pesky rodents and bugs.
- Clean out the refrigerator. Empty both the freezer and refrigerator of all food and drinks. Once it is empty, clean out the shelves with a soapy rag to get rid of any food residue.
- Empty the pantry. If you are leaving any food in the pantry while you are away, make sure to place the food in metal containers that have tight fitting lids.
- Protect your home from rodents. Put away anything that could be food for rodents, including candles, soap, and sponges. Spray a rodent repellent on the kitchen counters and under the sink.
- Take out the trash. Do not leave any trash in your house, not matter how small of an amount.
